Sunday, July 11, 2010*Meri Henriques VahlLocation: Monterey Peninsula College
Vahl, a Central Coast art quilter with a repertoire of meticulously crafted fiber art, is our guest artist for the July Workshop. Learn her techniques for creating such prize winners as her Flower Market of Chichicastenango, Guatemala which won Best Quilt at the Mancuso Brother's Best Quilts of the World 2009 competition. The wall quilt is a fabric collage with an overlay of fine tulle which was then overstitched. Meri’s fine art background comes through in the faces which were created using Caran d'Ache brand Aquarelle watercolor pencils. Meri was born in New York and received a BA in Fine Arts from U.C. Berkeley. She teaches art quilting techniques in the Santa Cruz area. Her art quilts have won top awards at the Santa Cruz Art League’s Textile Arts Show, Pacific International Quilt Festival, and Mancuso Brothers’ World Quilt Competition. Her work has also been shown at the Monterey Fine Arts Museum. *Note: Date Change |
