Workshops 2010

Saturday and Sunday March 20 and 21

Gaudynski

Diane Gaudynski

www.dianegaudynski.net

Location: Monterey Peninsula College

Your project is simple - it will be your "reference" piece for future projects using the skills from this class. Batting layered with great quality fabric will be the starting point of our project. Be sure to complete the BEFORE CLASS assignment (for details, see the supply list at www.mpqg.org.) Please come to class prepared to quilt, have fun, see what others are doing, and get new ideas for your own work. Diane will be there to help with whatever questions you bring and hopes to take you to a new level with your work. She will show you free-motion tips and techniques, some new, plus we will fine-tune some old standards. This is NOT a “project” class, but a way for you to work on some new motifs and improve your skills. Even though her style is classic and formal, the class will transfer to all styles of quilting. You don’t have to want to quilt like she does to take the class. A reminder ... Please do not wear fragrance or use chemical products in class. Thank you.

Meri Henriques Vahl

Location: Monterey Peninsula College

Vahl, a Central Coast art quilter with a repertoire of meticulously crafted fiber art, is our guest artist for the July Workshop. Learn her techniques for creating such prize winners as her Flower Market of Chichicastenango, Guatemala which won Best Quilt at the Mancuso Brother's Best Quilts of the World 2009 competition. The wall quilt is a fabric collage with an overlay of fine tulle which was then overstitched. Meri’s fine art background comes through in the faces which were created using Caran d'Ache brand Aquarelle watercolor pencils. Meri was born in New York and received a BA in Fine Arts from U.C. Berkeley. She teaches art quilting techniques in the Santa Cruz area. Her art quilts have won top awards at the Santa Cruz Art League’s Textile Arts Show, Pacific International Quilt Festival, and Mancuso Brothers’ World Quilt Competition. Her work has also been shown at the Monterey Fine Arts Museum. *Note: Date Change
